³²Æ÷¹Ì¼ú°ü ¼³¸³ÀÚ °ûÇü¼ö °üÀåÀº ³«ÈÄµÈ Áö¿ª»çȸÀÇ µîºÒÀÌ µÇ¾ú´ø ¼±Ä£ÀÇ °ø´öÀ» °è½Â, ½ÇõÇÏ´Â Á¤½ÅÀ¸·Î ¼±Ä£ÀÇ äºûܸ¦ ºô¾î ¹Ì¼ú°ü ¸íĪÀ» ÑõøÝ·Î Á¤ÇÏ¿´°í Æó±³µÈ Çб³°Ç¹°À» ¹®È°ø°£À¸·Î Å»¹Ù²Þ ½ÃÅ°¸é¼, Áö¿ªÁÖ¹ÎÀÇ ¹®ÈÇâ¼ö ±âȸ¸¦ ³ÐÈ÷°í »îÀÇ ÁúÀ» Çâ»ó½ÃÅ°´Âµ¥ ¿Á¤ÀûÀ¸·Î Çå½ÅÇÏ°í ÀÖ´Ù. 1960³â´ë ¾î·Æ´ø ½ÃÀý øø»êÁß¿¡ »ç¸³ÁßÇб³¸¦ ¼¼¿ö ÀÎÀ縦 ¹ß±¼ÇØ º¸°Ú´Ù´ø ¼±Ä£ÀÇ ¹«¸ðÇÏÁö¸¸ ¾Æ¸§´Ù¿ü´ø ²ÞÀÌ Ã´¹ÚÇÑ Áö¿ª¹®È ȯ°æÀ» dz¿ä·Ó°Ô ¹Ù²Ù°íÀÚ ¹Ì¼ú°üÀ» ¼³¸³ÇÑ ¾ÆµéÀÇ ¾Æ¸§´Ù¿î µµÀüÀ¸·Î ´ë¹°¸² µÈ °ÍÀÌ´Ù.
2005³â 2¿ù 19ÀÏ Àü³² Á¦1È£ µî·Ï, 1Á¾ ¹Ì¼ú°üÀ¸·Î °³°üÇÑ ³²Æ÷¹Ì¼ú°üÀº 4°³ÀÇ Àü½ÃÀåÀ» ºñ·ÔÇÏ¿© °ø¿¬Àå, âÀÛ±³À°½Ç µîÀ» °®Ãß°í ´Ù¾çÇÑ À帣ÀÇ ¹®È¿¹¼úÇÁ·Î±×·¥À» ¿î¿µÇÏ´Â »ýÈ° Ä£ÈÀû ¹®È°ø°£À¸·Î¼ ÆÈ¿µ»ê ÀÚ¶ô ¾Æ·¡ ¼ö·ÁÇÑ ÀÚ¿¬°æ°ü°ú ´õºÒ¾î Áö¿ªÁֹΠ»Ó¸¸ ¾Æ´Ï¶ó ¿ÜÁö°ü±¤°´µéÀÇ ¹ß±æÀÌ ²÷ÀÌÁö ¾Ê´Â °íÈïÀÇ ¸í¼Ò°¡ µÇ°í ÀÖ´Ù.
Nampo, Gui Dong Kwak donated his property to found the higher civic school to help the descendants in his hometown, who had missed their learning opportunity because of the poor environment, to achieve a dream of their future in 1965. After 2 years, in 1967 he established Jeomam Middle School, the School Foundation of Palyoung.
Even back then, his surroundings stopped him establishing a middle school in the remote area deep in the heart of the mountains, with no a main road or electricity. Nampo brought all the construction supplies by sea from Yeosu and let the abors carry them with an A-frame and backpack from the dock through the mountain path.
Jeomam Middle School established, suffering many difficult situations was renamed to Youngnam Middle School in 1989, because the administrative district of the school belonged to Youngnam-myeon. Director Hyung Soo Kwak, his son, in accordance with the will of noble educational spirit of his late father who established a middle school in his hometown and trained younger students has maintained a two-generation family foster project.
However, small size schools were merged into one because of the population decrease of the farming and fishing community. At last the School Foundation of Palyoung was dispersed in February 2003 and Youngnam Middle School was shut down with the 36th graduation.
Director Hyung Soo Kwak who is the founder of the arts museum named Nampo Arts Museum after his late father¡¯s pen name, for practicing and succeeding his good deeds which was a life of selfless service to the undeveloped local community. Therefore, he has had a passionate commitment to improve the quality of life for the local people through the multi-purpose art space for local culture facilities in the closed school.
In 1960s, his late father's dream which was rash but beautiful work for discovering talents through the private middle school deep in the heart of the mountains, has passed down to offspring who established the art museum to change the environment of the barren local cultures into an affluence.
Nampo Art Museum opened with 'Jeonnam the 1st Registered, a first class Art Museum' on the 19th February 2005 has 4 exhibition halls, a performance hall, and a creative activity hall for various genres of cultural and art program with a life-friendly cultural space. The art museum located amid beautiful scenery at the foot of Mt. Palyoung has become an art attraction in Koheung where many tourists of other regions as well as local residents visit.
